Rationale:

Our intention is to decrease health disparities by encouraging healthy behaviors and giving people the means to prevent and reduce chronic illnesses.  One measure of success is providing promotion and prevention strategies to communities fitting of their unique cultural needs.

Health Education & Literacy Programs

Rationale:

Health education is crucial to patients’ understanding of their health risk factors, treatment options and their diagnoses.  Through community engagement we hope to broaden health literacy giving patients will have greater control over decision-making improving power imbalances in the patient-provider relationship.

Community Based Research Initiatives

Rationale:

Community based research (CBR) is necessary in identify the opportunities and threats to a populations well-being. CBR allows for cross-sector collaboration and community partnerships, which empowers public health efforts in a way research findings enhances community health.

Focus #4

Intercultural Development of Health Providers

Rationale:

There is a direct link between the intercultural development of healthcare providers and improved patient health outcomes.  Shared decision making and community participation also increases when healthcare systems and providers are intercultural develop and express cultural humility in clinical encounters.  We want to ensure providers and systems have the skills and tools for culturally-based health care.

Rationale:

A crucial component to ensure equitable healthcare for diverse populations is ensuring health policies are designed with provision to protect, furnish access and utilization , and monitor health.  As advocates, we strive to influence state and local policy for the communities we serve.
